Standards that care
Hospital-grade compliance. Nurse-first support.
Working across different facilities and settings requires a high standard of readiness — not just for you, but for the patients and services you support. That’s why Lumia Care is built around clinical governance and a consistent standard of safe practice, including monitoring credentials, verifying registration, and responding to incidents through formal review processes.
What "standards that care" means in practice
- Credentialling and verification (documents, checks, training, and competencies)
- Ongoing monitoring of expiry dates and training currency
- Clear escalation pathways when you need support on shift
- Incident review via Clinical Governance processes
Why compliance matters
Compliance protects clients, nurses, and the organisation and helps ensure legal, safe, and professional standards are met.

On-shift clinical support and escalation
If something doesn't feel right, you're not alone
If you feel unsafe on shift, follow the escalation pathway:
- In hospital: notify the Nurse in Charge
- In the community: ensure your immediate safety, then call Lumia’s clinical support line on 1300 796 876 option 3
- Always complete an incident report after the event
Incident reporting and what happens next
- Hospital setting: escalate to the nurse in charge for immediate support, then complete an incident report within 24 hours
- Community setting: call Lumia Care’s support line
- Incidents are reviewed by the Clinical Governance team, with feedback and corrective action where required

Community and connection
Because support is something we provide people, not something we fill out on paper
Many international nurses tell us the difference is feeling like they have someone in their corner. From “moving and settling in” questions through to clinical confidence on the job, we endeavour to make you feel like you belong and are very much a valued member of the Lumia Care team.
Having a familiar and friendly voice at the end of a long day in rural and remote Australia
Working in Australia’s rural and remote communities can be incredibly rewarding, but sometimes, it can feel like you’re on your own. For rural and remote contracts, we build in friendly check-ins and help coordinate travel and accommodation where we can, so you can feel supported while you’re away.

Yes. To maintain safe, independent practice standards across hospital and community settings, Lumia Care requires you to have a minimum of 2 years’ post-graduate experience.
What happens if my mandatory training expires?
We monitor expiry dates of all of our nurses’ credentials. If something lapses, you may be marked inactive until required training is updated and verified.
Why do I need refresher training?
Annual refreshers help you remain compliant with health service requirements and support safe, up-to-date clinical practice.
How are competencies assessed?
Competencies may be reviewed via certificates, assessments, and (where required) practical demonstrations. Site audits may also be used.
